Roles and Permissions

The difference between an "Account Owner" and an "Invited Owner" stems from who actually possesses the underlying account for billing purposes.

1. The Workspace Creator (OWNER)

Workspace Creator (Account Owner): When a user creates a new workspace, the system creates an underlying Account for billing purposes. The creator becomes the OWNER of that Account (accountRole === 'OWNER') AND the OWNER of the Workspace (workspaceRole === 'OWNER'). Because they own the Account, they have exclusive access to manage all Billing capabilities and view billing data.

!NOTE It is no longer possible to invite a user as an OWNER. The OWNER role is strictly reserved for the original creator of the workspace and account. To grant elevated permissions, users can be invited as an ADMIN.

Here is exactly what each role is capable of doing:

MEMBER

A role for employees to handle the day-to-day interactions (chatting, analytics, debugging) without changing settings.

Cannot manage team members
Cannot change chatbot configurations
Cannot create or delete bots
Cannot manage campaigns
Cannot view or manage billing

ADMIN

A role designed for team members who need to build and manage the core product, but shouldn't be handling team access or settings.

Includes all MEMBER capabilities, plus:

canCreateChatbot: Yes
canEditChatbot: Yes
canDeleteChatbot: Yes
canManageCampaigns: Yes

Cannot invite or manage team members
Cannot rename or delete the workspace
Cannot view or manage billing

OWNER (The Actual Creator)

The absolute highest level of access. Full control over the Workspace, its resources, and the underlying Account's billing.

Includes all ADMIN capabilities, plus:

canInviteMembers: Yes
canManageMembers: Yes
canManageWorkspace: Yes
canViewBilling: Yes
canViewBillingAnalytics: Yes
canManageBilling: Yes — Can upgrade/downgrade plans, buy credits
